Crook's was created in 2018 by Che Crook. Che began tattooing in 2010 at the age of 18, after growing up fascinated by the tattoos he had seen and wandering how they were done.

As a self taught artist, getting bad art grades in school and college, Che took his portfolio of drawings to the majority of tattoo studios in Bristol searching for a break into the industry, easier said than done. After receiving some early valuable information from tattoo artist Ben Boston, Che updated his artwork and found an apprenticeship, in a small local studio in Thornbury, 45 mins away from Che's home. In the first few months of tattooing, Che would travel to Miami to get his first large tattoo done from his biggest inspiration at the time, in an optimistic effort as always to learn from the best.

Che would move to Avon tattoo a year later, where he would learn more about the craft of tattooing, travel to conventions and begin his networking in the industry.

It was at the London Tattoo Convention in September 2012 that Che met Chris Crooks (no relation) at White Dragon Tattoo in Belfast, N.I. Chris is still world renown for specialising in his unique Japanese style of tattooing. This is where Che began working conventions and travelling internationally, earning 6 awards and eventually meeting black and grey tattooing legend Jose Lopez.

As black and grey was Che's favoured styled, it made sense for Che to work with Jose to focus in on the style and pick up more tips. So in 2016 Che moved to London to work at Jose's Lowrider Tattoo where he would gain learn more and more technical tattooing as well as some foundational fine art, Jose's speciality. 

Che worked in Lowrider Tattoo for almost 2 years before returning home to Bristol to reground.

Since returning, Che has opened Crook's Tattoo Studio which is the home to Ashley King, once apprentice Regan Brown and current apprentice Kyle Fisher.

Crook's also focus on their media department, shooting music videos, podcasts, tutorials and interviews, bridging their corner of tattooing with the world of music and entertainment, while practicing the sacred and disciplined values of the tattoo craft.
